Work on our new Sixth form Building is certainly starting to take shape.
The brick work to first floor height is progressing well, in spite of the rain since the last update! The first roof layer is on the first floor single-storey part of the building and the main roof has started. Windows have been ordered and will start to be fitted during the summer and, once watertight, the first fixes will begin with the new power supply being installed mid-August.
Things are really starting to take shape on site with lorry loads of concrete having being poured to create the foundations. The last week has seen the delivery and the initial installation of the steels which is making the project feel very real!
The steels will be fully installed around Easter with the week commencing 15th April seeing the sub-floor preparation taking place, ready for the concrete slabs for the floors to be installed later in the month.
Build Update – February 2019
Work on our new Sixth Form building has got off to a great start with our contractors, Link Contracting, preparing the site, putting in the site road and starting to dig in preparation for the foundations going in. By the end of February it is planned the foundations will be dug out and the concrete pouring/slabs will have been carried out ready for the steel frame which is due to arrive on site in March.
Build Update – January 2019
You may be aware that we have been granted planning permission and had funding from the Department for Education confirmed for the new 6 classroom Sixth Form Block. We have spent the last few months working with our project management team, AA Projects, and our main contractor, Link Contracting, to finalise the build details. Construction will run from 24th January to October and we aim to have the block in use from November 2019.
The first thing that will happen on site is the establishment of the compound. Link Contracting will be fencing off the build area, as well as their site office and welfare facilities, to ensure that the site is safe and secure.
Work on the build will take place Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm. Link Contracting are very aware of key events on the school calendar and will ensure that disruption is minimised through the course of the build. Deliveries to the site will be restricted to avoid peak traffic times around school, i.e. the start and end of the school day for students, and all deliveries will be managed by a Banksman for Health & Safety purposes.
Regular updates will be posted on this page and also on the school Twitter account: @KNGSlife
