Healthcare Science Schools’ Taster Day

Sandwell & Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust

Five Year 10 students and four Year 12 students attended a Healthcare Science Schools’ Taster Day at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust in order to find out more about science related jobs in hospitals.

The day began with a ‘Science Speed Dating’ event where the students were able to talk to staff from nine different hospital departments for 10 mins each. During the break the students were then able to choose three departments to go and visit during the afternoon.

The Year 10 students chose to visit the Pharmacy, where they were able to see the dispensary robot at work, Neurophysiology and Pathology.

The Year 12 chose to visit Cardiology, Radiopharmacy and Medical Engineering. It was a very informative day, where students were able to gain an insight into the many different types of work which are available in hospitals.
