Free School Meals
The government provides Free School Meals (FSM) to eligible pupils to help families with the cost of living and to support children’s education and wellbeing.
We encourage all families who think they may be eligible to apply. By registering, you may not only receive help with meal costs but also enable the school to access additional funding that supports students through academic intervention, enrichment opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and wider educational support.
For further information or assistance with an application, please contact the school office.
Who is eligible?
From September 2026, all children whose households receive Universal Credit are eligible for Free School Meals.
There are now two categories of Free School Meals:
Targeted Free School Meals
For families who:
- Receive Universal Credit; and
- Have an annual net earned household income of £7,400 or less.
Children eligible for Targeted Free School Meals may also attract additional funding through the Pupil Premium.
Expanded Free School Meals
For children whose households receive Universal Credit but whose annual net earned household income is above £7,400.
These pupils are entitled to receive Free School Meals but do not attract Pupil Premium funding through this route.
Why should families apply?
Registering for Free School Meals can provide several benefits:
- A free, nutritious meal each school day.
- Additional funding for the school through the Pupil Premium for some eligible pupils.
- Access to additional support and opportunities that the school may offer to disadvantaged students.

Why is it important to apply?
If your child is eligible, applying for Free School Meals not only provides access to a daily meal but may also enable the school to receive additional funding through the Pupil Premium.
For each eligible secondary-aged pupil, schools currently receive £1,100 per year in Pupil Premium funding. This funding helps us provide additional academic support, enrichment opportunities and targeted interventions to improve student outcomes.
For assistance with an application, please contact the school office or visit Birmingham City Council’s Free School Meals application service.
