Summer Safety Plan
Safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do. While school may be closing for the summer holidays, our commitment to the safety and well-being of all our students continues. We encourage families to stay mindful of key safeguarding messages during the break.
Key Reminders for Summer Safety:
- Online Safety: Please continue to monitor your child’s online activity. Talk to them about staying safe online and encourage open conversations. Helpful resources include ThinkUKnow and Internet Matters.
- Out and About: If your child is spending time with friends or exploring more independently over the summer, remind them about personal safety, staying in contact, and knowing who to turn to in an emergency.
- Mental Health & Wellbeing: The long summer break can be a difficult time for some young people. Encourage routines, social interaction, and open dialogue. Support is available through services like Childline (0800 1111) and YoungMinds. We will also be publishing a presentation with other key sources of support available over the summer holidays – this will be accessible via our school website and social media channels.
- Family Connect: This is a self-referral to an Early Help service offered by Birmingham Children’s services if they feel they need additional support from external agencies during the holidays. Link: Family Connect Form Self-Referral link for families who can complete forms whilst at home during the holidays.
- Contacting Safeguarding Staff: Although the school office will be closed over the summer, safeguarding concerns can still be reported. If you are worried about a child, contact your local authority’s children’s services (Birmingham Children’s Trust by calling 0121 303 1888) or dial 999 in an emergency.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and deputy DSLs will resume regular safeguarding responsibilities from the first day of the new school term.
